You are exposed to fresh air and daylight, which improves mood, sleep, and the production of good hormones. About me

Hello!
My name is Aris Spijker, and I am a born and raised Amsterdammer.

I was never much of an athlete as a child and teenager, but around the age of 20 I discovered my passion for sports: Calisthenics, the art ofbodyweight strength training.

After graduating as a historian, and spending five years managing in the hospitality industry, I decided to make my hobby, working out outdoors, my job.

Partly because of this, I developed broad interests in people and in the world.

In 2021, I founded my small business, Westerparkfit, out of my belief in all the beautiful aspects of working out outdoors. I felt that more people should experience those beautiful aspects.

In 2022, I began the Milo Performance & Education training program bythe Vondelgym to further deepen my knowledge and become an officially certified personal trainer.

In addition to my work, I have many interests and hobbies such as: traveling, music, philosophy, DJing, and getting out into nature.

"After my pregnancy, it was difficult picking up my exercise routines again. The gym is not my thing, and I find exercising independently difficult without a big stick. Now that I train with Aris, I have a schedule that allows me to work out on my own, and I actually know what I'm doing. We focused on the things I thought were important: a strong core, strong ankles and learning how to do a pull-up. Aris is very flexible: we could always reschedule our regular time when I as a single mom was not able to find a babysitter. It's not even a problem if my little daughter comes along. She is also extremely enthusiastic about Aris and often asks at home what exercises I did that day."

"What I didn't expect was that besides growing physically, I would also grow mentally through the training sessions with Aris. I notice that nowadays I complain less and less when things get tough, and I am less self-critical when an exercise doesn't go well right away. I thought beforehand that it could be boring because of too much repetition, but the exercises are varied and also become more and more challenging over time. Aris is good-humored and has a broad interest in life, just like me. What is special is that he is very open about himself and genuinely is interested in you as a person. I have quite a few chronic painfull injuries, including in my lower back, which prevent me from doing some exercises. Fortunately, Aris takes this into account, takes my complaints seriously, and together we discuss what is possible. My core is stronger now, which helps prevent back pain. I actually did not know how to use my abdominal muscles before I started training with Aris, I found out. The training park always has a nice atmosphere, and it is very nice to be outside.

Before training with Aris, I used to believe calisthenics training was VERY hard, something just for very fit people. Now I see that it's just a matter of consistency and dedication. It's a step-by-step process, and along the way you'll have small but important wins. I can clearly notice I am getting stronger in my upper body, which I chose as our focus point. I started not being able to do a push-up, but now I can proudly say I can do 10 of them per set. Aris is a super positive, patient, and supportive person that pushes me to become my best version. He also gives me personalized training programs for me to do on my own, and advises about improving my sleep, daily routine, and diet, which help a lot with becoming that best version.

Authenticity is Aris' greatest strength in my opinion. I personally don't like it when trainers do overenthusiastic encouragements or "motivational quotes". Aris makes sure you get the best you can out of yourself, but does so in a fun, relaxed way. In addition to excellent knowledge about physical training, he has a wide range of interests and a lot of interest in you as a person. That is why we often have interesting conversations too. I started training during Corona and mainly wanted to get fit again. Thanks to training twice a week I immediately made a lot of progress in the first months and this has continued steadily since then. Also, Aris is flexible in terms of moments in the week to train, which makes working out easier to fit into my busy schedule.

Aris really knows how to make me push my limits without pushing me in an annoying way. Even though it is sometimes hard to get out of bed early to train before going to work, I know that I will feel great the rest of the day when I have trained with Aris. I like that we have a set time during the week, and that he encourages me to train independently as well. That way I keep making progress. I am most proud of my progress within the "Pull-up" exercise. When I started 2.5 years ago I could maybe barely do one of them, now I can do twelve in a row!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where would our trainings be happening?

Mainly in Westerpark and Rembrandtpark. These are centrally located calisthenics training parks with many options and possibilities. In consultation, other places also may be possible.

Can we also come and train in pairs, groups of three, or bigger groups?

Of course you can! With two or three the group is just small enough to be called personal training. With four or more, it takes the form of private small group training. For more information and associated rates, just contact me, and we'll discuss all the options.

Am I stuck with something?

Basically, we always work in blocks of 8 weeks with training schedules based on an intake in which goals, nutrition and lifestyle are discussed. This ensures commitment from both sides and also ensures the best results. Single training sessions are possible but have a higher rate as described above.

Are there set class times?

No, everything is possible, but discussing lesson schedules is always by mutual agreement.

How often should I train with a personal trainer?

The minimum is once a week. However, it is strongly recommended to train together twice a week in the beginning to make as much progress as possible and quickly learn a lot about movement and how your body works.

Are you an officially registered personal trainer?

I have completed the Milo Personal Training course at the Vondelgym. This is a course affiliated with the European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS), the independent personal trainer registry in Europe.
